A Woman’s Difficult Choice: Living with PGAD or Losing Sexual Sensation

In a candid interview, a woman has opened up about the challenging decision she faces regarding her sexual health. She revealed that she was told there was a “significant possibility” she would lose the ability to experience natural sexual arousal if she had her condition fully treated.

The woman, who has been dealing with post-SSRI sexual dysfunction (PSSD), explained that her current choice is between living with Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder (PGAD) or becoming completely numb sexually.

“I was told there was a significant possibility I wouldn’t be able to feel any sort of natural sexual arousal again if I had all of it removed — due to my post-SSRI sexual dysfunction,” she said.

Despite the difficulties, the woman expressed hope that one day she will be able to “live a normal life” and have a fulfilling sexual relationship.

PGAD is a rare and distressing condition characterized by a persistent, unwanted feeling of genital arousal that is not relieved by orgasm. It can have a significant impact on a person’s quality of life and relationships.

PSSD, on the other hand, is a potential long-term sexual side effect that can occur after discontinuing certain antidepressant medications, such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).

This woman’s story highlights the complex and challenging decisions individuals with these conditions can face regarding their sexual and reproductive health. Experts emphasize the importance of open communication with healthcare providers to explore all available treatment options and make informed decisions.
