Central Florida residents are advised to stay weather aware as a tornado watch has been issued for St. Johns and Putnam counties until 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 15th. This comes after a line of severe weather swept through the state on Tuesday, bringing damaging winds and hail.
The First Alert Weather Team warns that scattered severe storms are expected throughout the morning, with the possibility of damaging winds and hail being the primary threats. The worst of the weather is expected to move through between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.
While Putnam County was previously under a tornado warning from 2:30 a.m. to 3 a.m., the watch indicates a broader area is at risk for potential tornadoes.
Residents are urged to stay informed and follow the latest updates from reliable sources like the National Weather Service and local news outlets. WESH 2’s First Warning meteorologists recommend having a plan in place in case of severe weather, including a designated safe space and a way to receive weather alerts.
There is some good news on the horizon, though. After Wednesday’s storms clear up in the afternoon, Thursday and Friday are forecast to be dry, sunny, and hot. The chance for rain returns on Saturday, but the weekend is not expected to be a complete washout.
