Punjab Kings pacer Harshal Patel rocketed to the top of the IPL 2024 Purple Cap leaderboard during today’s match against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. While his bowling figures weren’t eye-catching (1 wicket for 48 runs in 3 overs), Patel’s solitary scalp was enough to push him past Jasprit Bumrah (Mumbai Indians) and Yuzvendra Chahal (Rajasthan Royals) who are currently tied for second with 13 wickets each.
This comes after a string of impressive performances by Patel, who has been a key factor in Punjab’s recent resurgence. The race for the Purple Cap, awarded to the tournament’s leading wicket-taker, remains hotly contested with Bumrah and Chahal just behind Patel.
