The Texas Rangers continued their strong start to the 2024 season, riding a stellar outing from veteran right-hander Jon Gray to a convincing victory last night.According to Rangers beat writer Evan Grant, Gray’s performance was the “best start by a Ranger pitcher in 2024”, as he trusted his stuff, pitched efficiently and went deep into the game. Gray himself attributed the difference to not “fooling around too much” compared to his previous outing.Offensively, the Rangers put together what play-by-play man Jeff Wilson called their “most complete win of the season”, with the bats providing ample run support. The victory puts the Rangers just one win shy of matching their total from last April, an impressive feat given the team is still working in a pair of rookie contributors. One of those young players, reliever Emiliano Teodo, has been on a tear lately. While not considered a top pitching prospect, Teodo could develop into a valuable bullpen piece for the Rangers. The news wasn’t all positive, however, as Mets ace Max Scherzer was unable to make a scheduled rehab start due to a sore thumb. Meanwhile, Royals prospect Kumar Rocker continues his recovery from elbow surgery and remains on pace to face live batters in June.Overall, it was another strong night for the Rangers, who continue to build momentum as they chase a return to the playoffs. With the pitching staff firing on all cylinders and the offense providing ample support, Texas looks primed for an exciting summer ahead.
